The mankind suffers from different evils, issues and problems. A very important issue to be addressed, particularly, in developing and emerging economies is the agonizing problem of 'poverty'. If we are serious about removing poverty from the mankind, undoubtedly, microfinance or financial inclusion is the only way out. Microfinance, understandably, aims at improving the standard of living of people below poverty line. A disturbing issue afflicting the society is that millions of people who live in rural areas, unfortunately, do not have access to financial resources from the formal sectors such as government or banking establishments. So, to empower women in rural areas and ensure social justice, the best option available is ‘microfinance’. With the result, Dr. Mohammad Yunus, the Noble Laurate from Bangladesh, championed this cause for well over three decades, has made tremendous progress in microcredit microfinancing in his country and helped millions of people to get relieved from the clutches of money lenders and people who exploit rural masses. Poor people get exploited in rural areas in many economies owing to over-indebtedness, a chronic problem which is plaguing many countries. These social malaises occur in the absence of formal government channels and regulations to help masses.
Microfinance programs help poor people to get small loans who do not have access to government and banking sector lending. These programs help people to become financially independent and generate adequate cash resources to take care of their families.
Microfinance offers innumerable benefits to people such as access to smaller loans with better loan repayment rates, providing financial support to women for empowering them and alleviating poverty from the globe. Job creation and sustainable living are the other benefits that microfinance programs offer for the people.
Given the above scenario, the forthcoming conference in the glittering city of Hong Kong makes an attempt to achieve the following objectives;
a) Analyze and discuss the major benefits of microfinance schemes and programs to the mankind;
b) Examine the various social evils which afflict the society today and suggest possible ways by which microfinance can help people living in rural areas in different parts of the world;
c) Provide an ideal platform for researchers, economists, bankers and practitioners to share their research and practical experiences in all the major issues highlighted as above in microfinance; and
d) Offer suitable solutions to ensure an orderly growth of the global economy and bring prosperity and sustainable economic development to the World, in the long-run.
